RedDot Solutions, a leading global provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions, today announced a formal partnership with the prestigious Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT to offer and continue development of the enhanced RedDot Web Compliance Manager. Created by Fraunhofer Institute FIT and available from RedDot, the new software solution helps organizations comply with legal requirements and international guidelines. The software is an add-on module to the RedDot product line and ensures Web sites, portals and intranets are easily accessible for professionals, and for persons with disabilities.
As content is updated, the RedDot Web Compliance Manager automatically reads Web sites and style sheets and flags any non-compliance issues. Validation is based on the regulatory and international accessibility standards, including Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act, WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and the German BITV (Barrier-Free Regulation for Information Technology). Custom rules can also be set up to enforce and ensure consistent use of corporate elements, such as corporate color selection, logo usage and product terminology. RedDot’s Web Compliance Manager also ensures code-level compliance and link consistency. As a result, Web site performance and search engine rankings can greatly improve.
"Traditionally, compliance with Web standards is a tedious task, which can be extremely time-consuming and costly," said Niels Metger, founder and CEO of RedDot Solutions. "With this enhanced Web Compliance Manager, the process is automated to dramatically reduce the time and effort required to make higher-quality content available to a wider target audience. We are pleased to market, package and deliver Fraunhofer Institute FIT's unique solution to our global client base."
"This software solution has proven that it validates and assures the quality of complex Web sites for both the public and private sectors," said Dr. Carlos Velasco, Head of the BIKA (Barrier-Free Information and Communication Technologies for All) Competence Centre at Fraunhofer Institute FIT. "We are delighted that RedDot Solutions will brand it and make it available worldwide. As an integral part of the widely used RedDot content management system, the Web Compliance Manager will help eliminate barriers and errors in Web sites during the design and content entry processes," added Dr. Velasco.
Fraunhofer Institute FIT investigates human-centred computing in a process context with a focus on the usability and usefulness of information and cooperation systems. Its initiative "Design for All" is aimed at developing integrated software solutions that take into account the needs of elderly and disabled people for the public and private sectors. The BIKA (Barrier-Free Communication and Information Technologies for All) Competence Centre provides assistance with the development of barrier-free, user-friendly Web sites; it also conducts studies with different user groups and plays an active role in the international consortium for barrier-free Web design (W3C.WAI). Under joint management, Fraunhofer Institute FIT's staff collaborate with the chair for information systems at RWTH Aachen .
