9/11The United States spends 892 billion dollars every year to protect its citizens and its territory. It is the “best protected country in the world,” according to President George W. Bush. Nevertheless, on September 11th the very heart of America was attacked; 3000 defenseless American citizens were killed on their own soil. According to the official version, this tragedy was the result of a well-conducted operation by nineteen hijackers of Arab origin, commanded by a man that lives in a cave in Afghanistan.
First the purge, then the surge, now the urge - to withdraw. By the next anniversary of the Iraq war we will see the retreat. It won’t be called that, more likely it will be termed the ‘’handover after victory’’. Vietnam was the Bright, Shining Lie, Iraq is the Dark, Sordid Truth.
The war is lost and the signposts to retreat are clearly visible.
